this is my pilot project :)
My name is Avery Frances Cochran, and I use they/them pronouns.
After taking lots of really 'hard' AP classes all throughout my high school career, I did well, but I wasn't happy. There was no personal connection to my learning and I had no autonomy in what I wanted to do. So in the spring of my junior year, I applied for the Pilot. I had some interests, like classical flute playing and music theory which weren't usually offered in my small high school, U32. I've been playing flute more, I've been learning facilitation, and reading loads and loads of French poetry.
This all has been an absolute blast for me, but what I'd like you to consider, dear reader: what you would've done in my situation? What do you want to study? Because I think you can.
What is Pilot??At U32 , there is a program where students can conduct their own learning. In the past, students have built tiny homes, taken AP classes, and worked on their art portfolio. There is a lot of freedom in what and how you want to learn things. And as long as you do learn things, and document that in some way, you are doing it right.
I will be able to develop a lifelong love of teaching myself. That's crazy. Me & Maggie! (a very special dog who lives in Seattle with my uncle Mark) > |
DOCUMENTING LIFE I GUESS...
What I am trying to say with these photos:
There is more to documentation than just your work in Pilot. Documenting life is sort of fun too. |
This is Milo. He rides to school with me sometimes. We take car selfies.
Below are my narratives, which are like a metacognition about learning. Reflecting and thinking about learning. For Quarter 1 and 2, I did a written essay, and for Q3, I did some videos as well as text :)
